Beate Sedlacek | Laszlo Hohmann | Karl-Henning Hohmann
Ackermann was founded in 1982 by Beate Sedlacek and Karl-Henning Hohmann.
In the early eighties, alongside our studies and training, we sewed leather trousers, jackets, skirts etc. for friends and acquaintances. Even then, we loved the material and wanted to create something that would stand the test of time. We shifted our activities to leather bags and leather purses and had the opportunity to present our collections to the trade for the first time at IFM Ambiente 1990.
Conviction
Beate and Karl-Henning's values were shaped in the 1980s when they first discovered leather as a material. Their goal, which remains unchanged today, is to oppose the growing throwaway culture by creating products that are built to last for generations. These products are designed to have minimal environmental impact once they reach the end of their life cycle.
Manufacture
We work with a skilled team of long-time employees. Some of our team members have been with us for over 20 years. We couldn't do it without them – designs and production methods are carefully discussed, tested, and ultimately incorporated into the program. The team consists of 14 people in total: 6 leatherworkers, 4 women working in our store in Lüneburg, and 4 in the office handling orders, sourcing materials, managing social media, taking product photos, and maintaining the website.

Craftsmanship
We design, test, and manufacture each bag from start to finish, from cutting to final inspection. This process, which is rare today, allows us to ensure quality and customize according to our or your ideas. In an increasingly digital world, it is satisfying to create a physical product that not only the designer and employee take pride in, but also the customer, who appreciates the craftsmanship and enjoys the bag for years to come.
